Your Smart Home or Your Digital Prison: The Hidden Dangers of IoT Devices

Home is our safe place. It’s where we feel secure and protected against everything and everyone. Especially, the last five years have done a spectacular job on proving this to us.

To make our home the best it can be, we keep buying new things to add. These used to be furniture, appliances and art. But now we have a whole new category we are exploring, smart devices.

We are trying to make our home smart. As though we needed any more competition in the smartness department.

Everything sounds cool until you take these devices and give them a close look. There you see all the risks we are bringing into our homes. What risks you must be thinking. I am not going to tell you. I am going to show you. Watch this video where a home camera gets hacked, and the attacker harasses an 8-years-old.

This is an example of how cybercriminals use a smart device to gain access to your home. There are hundreds of ways to do this with any type of equipment that you connect to the Internet. In a very near future, this is going to be the new frontier of ransomware.
